This pretty little car was produced by the tuning firm VEGANTUNE, when they were based in Spalding, Lincolnshire.  They were restoring Lotus Elans, and made some logical developments, including using the Spyder chassis with double wishbone rear suspension, and more up to date running gear.

EVANT-UALLY they decided to produce the car in total, from new, and the company became Evante Cars Ltd.  The main changes from the Elan are fairly obvious, but there were many more beneath the surface.  The engine was Vegantunes own VTA, initially in 1600cc, and later as a 1700cc. They were sold as the “140TC” or with a bit more power, the “160TC”.  Gearbox and Final drive came from Ford.. Twin 40 Dellorto’s were installed,  giving the car quick response and lovely sound.  Suspension is double wishbone all round, which gave the car exceptional handling.  Many Road Testers found the car an exciting and enjoyable drive, rating it above most of the other sports cars of the day.
